*The Specifics
This family is seeking a highly experienced and intuitive night nanny / newborn care specialist for a 120-day overnight position with the option to extend. The ideal candidate will have extensive, hands-on experience providing overnight care for newborns, specifically in roles such as a night nanny, newborn care specialist (NCS), night nurse, or postpartum doula.
This position requires someone who is calm, confident, and deeply knowledgeable in newborn regulation, cues, and soothing techniques, with the ability to settle and resettle an infant throughout the night without reliance on feeding. The primary responsibility will be providing attentive overnight care for the newborn, including diaper changes, burping, soothing, and monitoring the baby’s comfort, breathing, and overall well-being.
The nanny will bring the baby to the mother for breastfeeding as needed and will take full responsibility for soothing and resettling the baby afterward. Strong familiarity with safe sleep practices and cue-based care is essential, as is the ability to maintain a simple overnight log documenting feeds, diaper changes, sleep stretches, and observations. Light baby-related tasks will be expected, such as cleaning items used overnight and tidying the nursery. In addition to newborn care, the nanny will provide light, supportive postpartum care overnight, ensuring the mother feels comfortable and cared for during nighttime wake-ups. This may include refilling water, offering light snacks, and maintaining a calm, nurturing presence during feeds.
The family is seeking someone who is exceptionally skilled at working independently overnight and making sound, confident decisions while maintaining a respectful and supportive dynamic with the parents. The ideal candidate will be infant CPR and First Aid certified, a non-smoker, and willing to complete a background check and provide strong references specifically related to overnight newborn care.
Up-to-date vaccinations are preferred. Certifications as a newborn care specialist, doula, or a nursing background are highly valued, particularly for candidates known for their ability to soothe sensitive or wakeful newborns. This role is best suited for someone who views overnight newborn care as both a professional skill and a privilege, and who takes pride in supporting both baby and mother during the critical early postpartum period.
