*The Specifics
A busy, down-to-earth, and heart-filled family is seeking a dependable, energetic, and proactive Family Assistant/Nanny to support their household and two school-aged children. With both parents working one remotely and one in medicine, the family is looking for someone who can confidently step in as a team player and help bring organization, fun, and structure to their daily routines. They value honesty, integrity, flexibility, and a strong work ethic and are seeking a long-term fit who can grow with their family.
During the school year, the position primarily includes afternoon care from 3:00pm to 6:00pm, focusing on school pickups, transporting the children to after-school activities, offering snacks, helping with homework, and planning engaging and active play, such as outdoor time or trips to the park or library. The family’s children are currently in 4th and 1st grade. They are bright, curious, and full of energy. They enjoy board games, exploring the outdoors, and especially love active time like jumping on the trampoline or hiking local metro parks. A nanny who is upbeat, fun, social, and can jump in as a playmate will be a great match.
The role includes significant family assistant responsibilities, with approximately half of the hours dedicated to supporting the smooth operation of the home. These duties include family laundry (washing, folding, and putting away), tidying the home, unloading the dishwasher, light surface cleaning, vacuuming when needed, and running errands such as dry cleaning, post office trips, or grocery shopping. A cleaning service handles deep cleaning every two weeks, so no heavy cleaning is required.
The ideal candidate will be a self starter who takes initiative and works well independently, without needing frequent check-ins. Mom works from home and appreciates minimal chit-chat during the day as she is very busy with work. Clear, direct communication is valued, especially when it comes to asking questions and staying aligned on daily needs. The family is open to candidates with backgrounds in education or a degree, particularly those who can confidently support elementary level homework and learning, though this is a preference rather than a requirement.
The position begins this summer, ideally no later than August, and averages around 30 hours per week, with the possibility of more hours if desired by the right candidate. There may also be occasional weekend hours or full-day coverage when school is closed. Flexibility is key, especially as the children’s schedules shift between school, camp, and other activities. A willingness to occasionally provide full day care in the summer or on school holidays is essential.
The family also includes a friendly dog and a cat, so comfort with pets is a must. Overall, they are looking for someone who is dependable, communicative, flexible, and ready to become a supportive, joyful presence in their home. For the right person, this is a rewarding and long-term opportunity to be a part of a warm, lively, and loving household.
